Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
The Nonprofit Resource Center is celebrating National Volunteer Week 2010 by hosting a luncheon for Muskogee’s active volunteers.
Any organization that has a great volunteer has the opportunity to honor them at this event. Each nonprofit organization in Muskogee was invited to nominate up to two volunteers by submitting a description of the volunteer’s service and accomplishments. All volunteers who were nominated—a total of 36 volunteers from 20 different Muskogee organizations—will be honored on Thursday. Every volunteer will be announced at the luncheon and presented with a certificate of recognition.
Jessica Hisey, Marketing and Membership Specialist at Muskogee Nonprofits said:
“Volunteers are crucial to the success of nonprofit organizations. We can’t function as efficiently without those devoted volunteers. Unfortunately, a lot of small nonprofits can’t give their stellar volunteers the recognition they deserve for whatever reason. We wanted to provide those organizations that opportunity.”
The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was April 22 from 12-1pm. The luncheon was at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. This event was sponsored by Muskogee Rotary Club.
National Volunteer Week 2010, Celebrating People in Action, honors those who dedicate themselves to taking action and bettering their communities. It’s also about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities — to put themselves at the center of social change.
Sponsored by Points of Light Institute and HandsOn Network—the nation’s largest volunteer network—National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each subsequent year, with literally thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. And with the one-year anniversary of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the creation of the Volunteer Generation Fund and the resonant call to serve from the President, this year will be even more energizing and inspiring.
